The Sosurwo Foundation was founded by Mw D. J. Chepkwony, originating from the Marakwet District.

Since her arrival in the Netherlands Ms. Chepkwony reflects on ways to help the people of the Marakwet district. It is also clear that there is something has to be done about the situation with drinking water; The Marakwet community has no access to clean drinking water. They get their water from polluted rivers and they sometimes walk miles to reach the water sources. Lack of clean drinking water is a serious threat to the health and survival of the people of Marakwet. Therefore, Sosurwo Foundation was established to address these problems.

Sosurwo is a word from the language of the Marakwet population. The the meaning is "Water Tree".
